  • Overview

Nick has been a long-term resident of Middle Tennessee, moving here at the age ten. His formal education in art was acquired while attending Vanderbilt University as a student during the 1970's where he enrolled in a series of studio courses concentrating on drawing, painting and sculpting, as well as pursuing extensive coursework in the field of art history. In 1972, he took a leave of absence as an exchange student to tour Italy where he immersed himself in the country's cultural antiquity. In 1974, he graduated from Vanderbilt and enrolled in a four-year architectural program at the University of Tennessee. Over this educational period he acquired all the necessary 3-D skills required for architectural practice. His architectural career lasted 36 years. He retired in 2013 and reinvented himself to create art, his first love. The enjoyment of creating and talking about his work is now full time. His art medium referred to as Assemblage, often referred to as the three—dimensional cousin to collage. It is produced by utilizing found objects, both natural and man-made. The character of each sculpture he produces is dependent on the selection of materials used. His sculptures are one of three types; table-top, wall mounted or suspended. During his art career, Nick has had the opportunity to exhibit his work at several galleries in Nashville, in a solo exhibit sponsored by the Nashville International Airport, at the Tennessee Craft Fair tor the last 12 years, and has placed permanent installations at the Tennessee Governor's Residence, and at Franklin's Tupelo Honey restaurant. He is a mernber of the Arts Council of Williamson County and has volunteered to participate in their Artist in Residence program, working with students and teachers at local schools.
