Overview
(1808-1876) A lawyer, judge, newspaper printer, and politician, A.O.P. Nicholson was born in Williamson County, but was admitted to the bar and began his practice in Columbia. He served in both houses of the Tennessee State Legislature and the United States Senate. He was the editor of the Nashville Union and the Washington (D.C.) Union and served as the public printer for the U.S. House of Representatives. Elected to the U.S. Senate in 1859, he resigned when Tennessee seceded.
