Square West Arts Loft is proud to present its inaugural solo art exhibit featuring the work of Frederick J. Behrens. A Chicago native, but long-time resident of Columbia, Tennessee, Behrens was a full Professor of Art at Columbia State Community College for 46 years. His work has been displayed at prestigious galleries and universities, including Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, Middle Tennessee Sate University, Columbia State Community College, The Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee and over 40 private collections in Chicago, Alabama and more. Behrens’ early work consisted primarily of water color, pen and ink, and acrylic paintings. However, after suffering a stroke In 1999, Behrens reinvented his creative process, and began incorporating non-traditional media in his paintings, such as sand and house paint, adding more texture and depth to his work. Additionally, Behrens was also diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease several years ago, but never one to let health stifle his art, he continues to draw and sketch in his sketch pads using crayons and colored pencils.
